My career has been devoted to finance. I received a bachelor's degree in accounting, became a CPA, and then worked as a controller. However, I always knew I didn't want a full career in accounting.
I joined the financial services industry in 2002 at a firm where there was pressure to generate commissions and wear a suit every day. I didn't much care for that, so I started my firm in 2004. That firm is Hendricks Wealth and Estate Management (HWEM) and I hope it exists for decades to come.
I have 3 grown children. They aren't all taking Dad's recommendation of becoming future executives with HWEM, but there's still time.
Part of my mission is to have fun every day. Work comes first, but personally, my enjoyment comes from creating something, playing golf, playing a game, playing drums, or playing just about anything. Ever since I was a child, I've been making games out of everything. Combine setting goals and motivation into a game, and your desire to win will also help you accomplish your goals. I carry this mindset in business, and it is the approach that I take with clients in their quest for financial peace.

Tom Anderson
I began my career in financial services in April 2025 after knowing Jim for many years on a personal level. With a background in both physics and sales, I bring a unique blend of analytical thinking and interpersonal insight to financial services. The transition from teaching towards becoming a financial advisor was a big change, but one I remain excited about, and I'm excited to help you plan your financial future.
What drew me to this field wasn't just a passion for numbers, it was the chance to make a real impact on people's lives. Financial planning is more than just numbers, it's about getting to really know people, understanding what matters to them, and helping them make smart choices through life's big moments.
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active at the gym, spending time with my husky, golfing, and exploring new ways to grow both personally and professionally. I love meeting people, traveling, and just enjoying life as much as I can.

We are VERY involved in the estate planning process. While our firm does not offer official legal advice and is not authorized to practice law, one of our employees is an attorney and does have an estate planning practice that is entirely separate from our firm. Also, we have the ability to help you create estate planning documents and trusts within guardrails that ensure that we are not practicing law. We also help make beneficiary recommendations for your estate that will help your overall estate picture be as tax efficient as possible. |
| Tax Advice and Services
We do not offer official tax advice, but we do want to make sure that you are as tax efficient as possible. We are well versed in tax rates and tax treatment of investments, and we also take a household view of your taxable income when we are making both investment AND beneficiary recommendations. We do not prepare tax returns, but we do work closely with your tax preparer. We are also very proactive in recommending things such as Roth conversions when they make sense. |

We are very strong proponents of Section 529 college savings plans, but those are not for everybody. In general, college attendance is dropping, but fortunately there are new rules in place that will help clients avoid taxes and penalties if they have assets left in a college savings plan after their child completes their education. (subject to limitations). We help clients calculate what is needed for college and make the proper allocations. |

We are very selective and efficient when it comes to investment management. We have relatively few investments that we recommend, and then we monitor those investments regularly and cater their allocation to each client based upon their time horizon and risk tolerance. We thoroughly review your investments with you during our regularly scheduled meetings. |

While we cater our advice to each client's particular tolerance for risk, we also generally view risk as a good thing when it comes to long-term portfolios. Short-term assets must be protected by using lower risk instruments, but we generally want our clients taking as much sensible risk as they can tolerate with their longer term assets. We only advise pooled investment products such as mutual funds and ETFs so that clients remain diversified. |

We factor all of a client's assets into our wealth management picture, and that includes cash that a client may hold, as well as other investments that might be held outside of our firm. We want to make sure that everything is working together as seamlessly as possible. |
